More than thirty years ago when my children were young, I wrote a Christmas Carol that I used to sing to them. I sang my song in church last night at the invitation of our music director. Here are the lyrics:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESUS

Happy birthday, Jesus
It’s my favorite time of year
Carolers are singing
Silver bells are ringing
‘Tis the season to be jolly
Merry Christmas cheer

Happy birthday, Jesus
Pretty presents are under the tree
Children’s eyes are all aglow
Building Frosty in the snow
Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Hear the angels sing —

They’re singing “Joy to the world
On the day Christ was born
Joy to the world
On this new Christmas morn!”

Help us, Lord, to share Your love
For the world to see
Christ was born in Bethlehem
Sent to save the world from sin
Peace on earth, goodwill to men, now
With the angels sing:

We’re singing “Joy to the world
On the day Christ was born
Joy to the world
On this new Christmas morn!”

Happy birthday, Jesus
Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

Someday when I figure out how to do it, I will add an audio recording of myself singing this song. I sing it in an upbeat, happy tune. (Think Karen Carpenter meets Bing Crosby.) It’s a little goofy, I know, but at least it’s good for a laugh. πŸ˜€

If this is a sad time of year for you because of recent loss, memories of abuse, narcissistic relatives, poverty, illness, or loneliness, I know what all of those things are like and my heart goes out to you. Hang on, it will soon be over!

Thank you for reading and God bless. Here’s a big grandma ((HUG)) if you want one. ❀ ❀
