Are your words of comfort actually not-so-comforting? — Enough Light
Laura posted this on her blog, Enough Light, yesterday. It’s like she took my scrambled up thoughts and emotions and made sense out of them. 🙂
I tend to be either too nice or maybe come across as not caring enough.

We Christians often have many platitudes that we say..
“Give it to Jesus, brother… Or sister”….
“Just pray about it”…
“Let go and let God”…
Or, ” You shouldn’t be sad…He (She) is with Jesus!”
“Don’t CLAIM that negative, Brother (Sister)”…
It gets worse…
“I rebuke this ________in the name of Jesus!
“This is ALL the DEVIL”….I REBUKE SATAN for ___________”
In doing so, we try and make ourselves appear more spiritual, but we TOTALLY miss the need of the person who’s going through the loss or the trial!!! Sad! ☹️ When my son was diagnosed with Cancer, some well meaning person told me not to “claim” it, and proceeded to “rebuke” my son’s diagnosis! They then passively agressively suggested that I and my wife were probably in sin…
Enter Job’s three “friends”.
I have heard it said that “if someone is going through a storm, resist the urge to curse the rain…instead, hand them an umbrella.”

I don’t even know what to say in reply to this, Paul. You said it all. God bless you and your precious family. ❤

Words have so much more impact then most of us would like to think. Thank-you for the reminder. It leaves me thinking are we slow to speak… I’m applying that to my own life.
What may seem like a simple post leaves ample room for much reflection as I do my devotional this morning. Thank-you!

Thank you, Anna, for your kind, affirming words. I really appreciate it.
I found your comment in my spam folder. I know you are definitely not a spammer! A few months ago, all of my comments that I left on other people’s blogs suddenly started going straight to spam. After getting nowhere with WP customer service, I found a way to stop that from happening. If your comments are typically going to spam, let me know and I will tell you what I did to correct that.
