My New Year’s Eve Prayer

Matthew 6:34 King James Version (KJV)
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:34 Amplified Bible (AMP)
34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Father God, I have a lot of things on my mind this New Year’s Eve. In addition to my ordinary daily life concerns — health, finances, and getting older — I am especially concerned about the well-being of several of my loved ones who are hurting and struggling with some serious issues right now. And, tomorrow is the beginning of a brand new year. I have so many hopes and dreams for this coming year, things I want to accomplish. What will this new year bring, I wonder? When I read the news headlines, it seems like the only thing we have to look forward to is doom and gloom.

I am thankful, Lord, for Matthew 6:34. I’m thankful for your gentle reminder to live just one day at a time. Please help me to focus every day on only the things I need to deal with for that one day, and to leave my worries about tomorrow in your hands. I love you, Father God, and I trust you. Please help me to live for you, first and foremost, and to walk in your truth and in your love today, and every day. Above all else, I pray for your will to be done. In the name of Christ Jesus, my Savior and my Lord, I pray. Amen.
