(Update on the morning of the flight: thanks to everyone’s prayers, the anxiety I had when I wrote the following post two days ago is gone!)
Day after tomorrow, on Friday, July 12, I am going to the airport in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I will catch a Southwest Airlines flight to Hartford, Connecticut, with a stop over and plane change in Denver.
I’m going to be gone a little over three days, returning late Monday. I’m looking forward to my granddaughter’s wedding, and I am super excited about seeing so many family members, some of whom I haven’t seen in years. I really am looking forward to this. However, I really, really don’t like to fly! Especially not all by myself. My husband surprised me with the tickets back in March, but he only bought one round trip ticket. After jumping out of planes over Vietnam at 30,000 feet, he does not fly now, for any reason.
Hmmm … I just googled “is it safer to fly than drive” and found a lot of alarming statistics that make me never want to drive or ride in a car again, lol. I already knew that flying is considered much safer than driving, statistically speaking. But it seems so unnatural to me, to be so high above the earth.
I just googled “how high do commercial airlines fly.” The answer: between 36,000-40,000 feet, with a maximum of 45,000 feet. Eek!!! I need to stop googling.
I keep reminding myself to breathe. God is with me and I can do this. Breathe… (EEK)
Anyway, I know that flying is a lot safer than riding on the back of my husband’s motorcycle, which I used to do until the last bike crash in 2014 put a stop to that.
I took the picture of my hubby and me on his Goldwing bike in December 2004, using a tripod and timer. The Sandia Mountains are in the background. I took the picture at the top of this post about five years ago in a small New Mexico town near an Air Force bombing range. There was a lot of flying going on that day. And, nobody crashed!
Thank you for stopping by. Here’s a big grandmotherly ((HUG)) if you need one. God bless!
Wonderful pictures! And you will do just fine! Have a fantastic visit!! ❤

Linda, stop looking at all those statics! lol I was a flight attendant for 18 years – yes, I lived on airplanes, and NEVER had an emergency and NEVER crashed! You’re scaring yourself half to death, stop it. lol Enjoy the view from above, its fascinating, and have an absolutely wonderful time with your family.

Thanks, Sue. I am so sorry that I didn’t see your comment before now. (Why oh why has WP put so many great comments in spam? Not only your comments, several other people’s, too? Grrr!)

You must have clicked on my “spam” ones and sent to “Not spam.” That’s what fixes it.

Prayers for you. I used to be TERRIFIED to fly. God healed me of that. Just remember that you are in God’s hands. He will keep you. Try to spend the flight anticipating the fun you will have, instead of worrying about the flight itself. I would add to avoid coffee and caffeinated drinks , because they will increase nervousness, as well as make you have to use the facilities. Lastly, remember…The pilots are consummate professionals. They are well equipped to handle the flight and any situations that may arise. Safe travels.

Thanks so much, Paul. Yes, I agree about the caffeine. I gave up all caffeinated beverages years ago, which eliminated my need for an anti-anxiety medication.
I love to read and I have dozens of unread books on my Kindle e-reader. I plan to lose myself in some uplifting reading.

Hello! Thanks for the link. However, all it gives me is a blank screen. What’s the title of the post you are linking to? I will search for it on your site.

Sorry, I’m still not sure how to attach a link. It’s called “The Only Thing We Should Fear.” It was posted April 12 of this year.

Thanks, I will search for it right now. 😊

Thanks … “On-my-daddy’s-lap”? Interesting. Wonder how I was supposed to know that. I’m still technologically challenged, I’m afraid.

Thanks, Tricia! I have flown more than a dozen times in my life, three times from Texas all the way to England and back. I never minded it before, not even when we flew through thunderstorms and hit an air pocket and plummeted straight down for an alarming distance. I was cool with it, even then. But the last time I flew, two years ago, I hated it. I don’t know why, it was a calm flight, but it just felt all wrong, somehow. I made up my mind then not to ever fly again. But… it’s the only way I can get to my granddaughter’s wedding.

That’s interesting Linda how this flying phobia suddenly came about. Who knows, maybe after this trip you’ll decide it’s not so bad again. Regardless you’ve got to be there for your granddaughter’s wedding! Have fun!

I hope you have a wonderful time at the wedding and with all your peeps 🙂
OH, do I Get It about a fear of flying! At least half the time I get adrenalized / queasy just hearing them go by outside.
(I’m still waiting for the Transatlantic Highway.)
I also do what you did vis-a-vis looking up stuff online that only makes it worse! Glad you stopped. I’m sure you’ll be just fine and am looking forward to hearing all about it.
Y’all have / had a GOLDWING? Well, hot d&$%, and shut my mouth!

Lol. I do miss riding. At one point, I was going to buy my own bike and take some lessons so I could ride on my own. But every one of my biker friends, when I told them about my plans, said the same thing almost word for word. “Don’t do it! You’re too dtizy! You’ll kill yourself the first week!”
When the fifth biker friend told me this — and these were separate, private conversations — I decided to give up the idea.

Well, I have nothing to add to that; LOL!
I have been on a bike possibly twice in my life. My cousin, though, dated and eventually married a guy who was an avid biker. During the course of their relationship, they went on vacation to (and from) The Outer Banks on his Honda whatever-it-was. At the time (we were all in our twenties), I thought that was the coolest thing EVER.
I learned about Goldwings from them. Any time the name came up, it was like in a movie, where the clouds part and a ray of sunlight comes through and you hear the choir going “Ahh-ahh” in the background. It was their Lottery Dream to one day own one.
They are now living in a split-level in the NJ suburbs with two-point-four children.

I’m glad they survived their biking days. I’m sure their 2.4 children are glad, too. 😁
